ADAM'S PEAK (SRI PADHA)

 

Adam's peak or called "Sri padha" is a religious place which was situated in between Rathnapura district and Nuwara Eliya district. This look like a conical shaped mountain and 7359ft height from the sea-level.

This is very valuable place because the Lord Buddha's "FOOTPRINT" was situated on top of the mountain. Therefore lot of peoples not only Buddhists but also Hindu, Muslim and Christian peoples also come to worship.


According to the Mahavamsa, the great chronicle of Sri Lanka, the Supreme Buddha visited Sri Lanka at three times. The last time Buddha traveled from Kelaniya to Sri Padha and then to Digawapiya. It is said that the Supreme Buddha placed his footprint on the rock at the top of the mountain at the invitation of the deity Saman (Goddess Saman).

In the Sri-padha season lot of devotees were came to worshipped their Buddhas "FOOTPRINT". So whole the area colorful and lot of sound from the people. When climbing the mountain people are habituate to sing songs for minimize their tiredness. on the way some places are made for the devotees to rest and small shops are open for the people to eat when they got hungry. 


















To reach the top of the mountain it get about at least 10 hours  after that devotees worshipped and waiting for a scenery. In the morning, lot of people are waiting for the Sun Rise. It is the most beautiful scenery can be seen on the top of the mountain. Very Hot and red ball can be seen through clouds. 
Adam's peak is also an tourist attracted place, lot of tourist came to see this ancient place.











We must protect our historic place for the future Generation and Religious revival.........
