RUWANWELISEYA (Anuradhapura)

 











The Ruwanweliseya is located in North central province Sri-lanka. It is very famous ancient place in Anuradhapura. It was built by King Dutugemunu but he couldn't complete the stupa because of his death after that his younger brother King Saddathissa was completed the Stupa. Ruwanweliseya is the tallest ancient monuments in the world.

Ruwanweli stupa has a diameter of 90m from the base and 92m height. The circumference is 292m and the previous stupa had been 55m in height and many kings had renovated the stupa. The structure of the Ruwanweliseya has made like a bubble floating on a water. The whole stupa is surround by the sculpted wall with the tuskers.

Ruwanweliseya is very calm place at all time but in the moon night there is empower around the place. Most of devotees visit Ruwanweliseya after worshipped Srimaha bodhiya. Ruwanweliseya is not only famous in Sri-lanka but also in foreign countries. Lot of foreigners came to Sri lanka to see those ancient places. On the other hand according to the ancient chronicle Dhathu, one eighth of the whole-body-relics of the Buddha has been deposited in the Stupa making it one of the treasured places of worship for Buddhists.
